Chicken & Sweet Potato Jerky Bites
A protein-packed chewy treat made for summer hikes, long walks, and the trail snack pouch that's been empty for months.
The treat that lives in the side pocket of your hiking pack. These chewy, protein-packed jerky bites travel well, hold up in the heat, and give you something to reach for when your pup needs a little fuel halfway up the trail. Four ingredients, one bowl, and a snack that beats anything you can buy at the trailhead.
Ingredients
- 1 cooked chicken breast, shredded
- ½ cup mashed cooked sweet potato
- 1 egg
- ½ cup oat flour
How to make them
- Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
- Combine the shredded chicken, mashed sweet potato, egg, and oat flour in a bowl. Mix until the texture is dough-like and holds together.
- Roll the dough into small logs, or flatten into bite-sized shapes on parchment paper.
- Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, flipping the jerky bites after 20 minutes for even drying.
- Let them cool completely on the parchment — the chewy texture sets as they cool.
