The phrase "Pet friendly" is pulled in quite a few directions nowadays.
On the one hand, it could mean that you could bring your dog, in theory, even if in reality you have to pay lots of money, comply with a bunch of regulations, and get a room near the service entrance. The following eight Southern hotels are truly excited that you are traveling with your pet.
1. Kimpton Brice Hotel, Savannah, Georgia
Morning walks in Savannah are already a dream, and Kimpton Brice will make your life simpler. A room costs approximately US$99 per night, and pets of all sizes are allowed with no additional fee or restrictions on weight or breed, which is still quite unusual. They have a shaded courtyard for the dogs to stretch after a long trip, and the staff even have a reputation for treating the dogs with as much excitement as their owners.
Booking note: A courtyard-facing room makes those early potty breaks and post-dinner strolls especially easy.
2. The Nash (Formerly Bobby Hotel), Nashville, Tennessee
Is your perfect weekend spent catching some live music and bringing your dog along on coffee runs? Then Bobby Hotel would vibe with your tempo. A room costs approximately US$213 per night, and your furry pal can stay with you here for an extra pet charge of roughly $75 per stay. You will find city streets, parks, and pet-friendly patios quite handy all within walking distance. This is one of those hotels where taking a dog along is such a natural thing that you don’t even think of it as asking for a favor.
Booking note: Request a quieter room if your pup prefers naps over Broadway’s late-night energy.
3. Hotel Clermont, Atlanta, Georgia
OUR TEAM IS OBSESSED WITH THIS HOTEL!
Hotel Clermont is a lively place with a great vibe, and luckily, that includes welcoming dogs too. A room per night costs approximately US$109 per night, and they allow pets for a pet fee (around $75 per stay), without imposing any unusually strict rules for most guests. There are several parks nearby that allow quick walks, which is great before the Georgia heat rises, and the hotel’s relaxed environment seems to be a perfect fit for a dog that always wants to be included in the fun.
Booking note: The neighborhood is wonderfully walkable, so pack a leash instead of overthinking the itinerary.
4. The Vendue, Charleston, South Carolina
It can be said that Charleston in some way solicits slow morning walks, and The Vendue does not exclude your dog from them. The hotel allows the guests to bring their pets for an extra charge (in most cases, about $120 for the entire stay on top of approximately US$193 per night), and you will have great options for waterfront walks and streets full of charms and smells.
Booking note: Book a longer stay if you’re planning to explore Charleston on foot – your dog will thank you.
5. Staybridge Suites Gulf Shores by IHG, Gulf Shores, Alabama
If your ideal vacation includes extra space to spread out and a hotel that welcomes your pup just as warmly as you, Staybridge Suites Gulf Shores is a great home base. The hotel welcomes up to two pets of any size for an additional fee of $75 for stays of one to six nights (or $150 for longer stays), and even greets four-legged guests with treats and a bandana at check-in. After a day exploring Gulf Shores’ white-sand beaches and local attractions, you can unwind by the outdoor pool or let your dog stretch their legs in the fenced grassy pet relief area before settling in for the night.
Booking note: Let the hotel know you’re bringing a pet when you book, and reserve early during peak beach season to ensure a pet-friendly room is available.
6. The Dunhill Hotel, Charlotte, North Carolina
Although historic, The Dunhill Hotel manages to keep from being stuffy in any way, making it a great comfortable base for discovering Uptown Charlotte. You can bring your dog along for a stay here as they are welcome pets (for a fee of about $100 per stay on top of approximately US$99 per night), and the availability of nearby green spaces means that pet owners’ quick breaks are really quite easy. On top of that, it will be a walk in the park for you if your road trip includes city exploring and many coffee stops.
Booking note: Ask for a room away from the elevators if your dog startles easily.
7. The Valley Hotel, Homewood (Birmingham), Alabama
Located only a few blocks from downtown Birmingham, The Valley Hotel offers the welcoming atmosphere of a neighborhood favorite instead of a conventional urban hotel. They accept dogs at the Valley Hotel for a pet fee of around $75 per stay on top of approximately US$182 per night, and the walkable streets around Homewood are great for walking your four-legged friend after a day in the car. Having breakfast with your dog by your side is the kind of thing that is a trip.
Booking note: Homewood’s sidewalks are especially nice for an early walk before summer temperatures climb.
8. Kimpton Aertson Hotel, Nashville, Tennessee
Kimpton is a go-to choice of hotel for dog parents who want to travel with their pets, and for a good reason. The Aertson Hotel has the same widely known generous pet policy as the brand, and that means no pet fee, no weight limit, and no breed restrictions, which means a room a night only costs approximately US$170. Besides that, there are water bowls, warm welcomes, and a genuinely dog-friendly attitude, so you have less time worrying about the rules and more time enjoying the trip.
Booking note: If your dog likes meeting new people, don’t skip the lobby. It tends to attract plenty of fellow dog lovers.
If you’re organizing a Hot Dog Mom Summer of your own, these are the types of places that not only accept dogs but also make bringing your dog the main focus. Combine your weekend trip with our Hot Dog Mom Summer guide, then pack the travel crate and perhaps one extra tennis ball for a rainy day.
